It's a hot one out there!
I read somewhere that 40 of the 50 states will be in extremely high heat conditions this week. So be sure to take care of yourself and your dog! If you’re hot, imagine wearing fur! Now imagine for a minute that you can’t sweat. Nope, the only way you can expel heat from your body is to pant or through the pads of your feet. So if you’re walking on those pads, how much relief are you getting? And you probably don’t even want to think about walking on hot pavement! Keep in mind, too, the core of your dog’s body is also closer to the ground – which holds the heat this time of year. Here is a great article about Heat Stroke in Dogs. Yes, dogs can get heat stroke! So take care and keep your dog cool.

Is that a Real Dog on Stage?!
Pure Spirit is proud to have been the official dog trainer for the Children's Theatre Company's production of ANNIE this spring. We had a great time working with the talented actors, crew and administrators that made this heart-warming Story come to life. Check out the wonderful pictures and find out what it was like to work with the canine actors for the role of Sandy. Click here for the whole story!
And Sandy made an impact on and off the stage...
We heard the sweetest story from The Children's Theatre Company gift shop manager. During a performance of Annie a little girl and her mom left the theater. Girl was upset because Sandy was homeless and lost... and the dog should have a home. Serendipitously, Tulip (who was playing Sandy that day) got off the elevator with her owner, Linda at the same time. Linda and Tulip assured the little girl that she was just ‘acting homeless’. What compassionate young lady!

Godspeed, Portia! We Miss You!
And on a sad note we said good-bye to one of our own this week. Portia (11YO, GSD) passed away Friday evening leaving behind her well-worn body that had succumbed to seizures over the past year. Read Marilyn's tribute to her beloved best friend. Click here.
