8 State Hurricane Kate
Book review by Marilyn Tokach
Last month I had the good fortune of meeting author and animal rescue advocate, Jenny Pavlovic, at the Minnesota Valley Humane Society Woofer & Hoofer fundraising event. I’ve known about Jenny’s book, 8 State Hurricane Kate for a while, but never seemed to have the time or desire to read it. After meeting Jenny, I felt we had a common bond. Although I didn’t go to Louisiana to help after the devastating hurricane, I did feel the strong pull to help that she describes in her book. It was the same desire I experienced four years earlier after 9/11, but I didn’t follow that urge either. Thank goodness for Jenny and people like her who heeded the call.
8 State Hurricane Kate is a beautifully written and engaging book about "the Journey and Legacy of a Katrina Cattle Dog" and how she changed the life of not only Jenny, but also so many people across the country, and around the world. This book is proof that one dog, and indeed, one person, can make a difference. I found myself alternately laughing and crying, but more importantly as I turned each page I became encouraged by the strength of the human spirit and the survival skills, adaptability and trust of the animals. Thank you for your story, Kate. Thank you for sharing that story with the world, Jenny.
